Swimming lakes & pools in the Brixental: cooling off with a mountain view

An outdoor pool with a lake in Brixen, a natural swimming lake in Kirchberg, a moor lake in Kitzbühel: the best places to swim around Brixen im Thale – often even free with the guest card.

Summer, sun, mountain lake

After a hike or on a really hot summer’s day there is nothing better than a dip in the water. In the Brixental you have several options – and with the Brixental guest card entry to the pools in Brixen, Kirchberg and Westendorf is free.

Freizeitanlage Brixen im Thale – the pool on your doorstep

Just a few minutes from the Ottenhof is the Freizeitanlage Brixen im Thale, around 700 metres from the village centre and right on the Brixental cycle path. It combines an outdoor pool with a swimming lake:
- three pools and a giant slide
- swimming lake with diving tower (1 m and 3 m)
- playground, Kneipp pool, restaurant and kiosk
- free car park

According to the tourist board the facility is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm and closes earlier in bad weather.

Badesee Kirchberg – natural swimming lake with wave slide

In the neighbouring village of Kirchberg there is a natural swimming lake of around 1.4 hectares. It includes a heated pool with a non-swimmer area, a children’s pool, a diving tower, a 25-metre wave slide and a 50-metre slide. Pedal boats and beach volleyball add variety. Open daily from 9 am to 7 pm, in July and August until 8 pm.

Freischwimmbad Westendorf

The modern outdoor pool in Westendorf opened in 2024: with a non-swimmer pool, 1-metre board, 3-metre tower with its own diving pool, slides and a baby pool.

Schwarzsee near Kitzbühel – swimming in a moor lake

A little further away, but special: the Schwarzsee is a moor lake with a view of the Wilder Kaiser. An approximately 2.5-kilometre circular path leads around the lake, partly over wooden boardwalks through the moor. With the guest card you travel free by bus or train towards Kitzbühel.

When it rains

You do not have to miss out on swimming on rainy days: indoor pools such as the Aquarena in Kitzbühel or the Panorama Badewelt in St. Johann are easy to reach.

Our swimming tips

  • The pools are usually quieter in the morning.
  • Do not forget sun protection – the sun is stronger in the mountains.
  • Combine: hike in the morning, swim in the afternoon. You will find suitable tours in the hiking article.
  • Opening hours and prices may change – please check with the pools in advance.
