A family holiday on a mountain farm
For many children the adventure already starts at the farm: animals, meadows, lots of space and mountain air. And around Brixen im Thale there are so many family attractions that a week is almost too short. Here are our favourites.
RiesenWelt Hochbrixen – right in Brixen
The Hochbrixen gondola takes you from Brixen im Thale to the Filzalmsee at around 1,300 metres. The RiesenWelt, themed around the legend of the giant, awaits you there:
- wooden raft, skittles and a water spout with an Archimedean screw
- a water giant that rises out of the lake with a foot pump
- giant sandpit, water playground and giant loungers with an all-round view
- barefoot trail, moor wading pool and massage plate
- the Riesenwald circular trail with interactive stations, about one hour
Most of the stations are pushchair-friendly. Allow several hours. According to the lift company, children born in 2022 or later ride free (summer 2026).
Hexenwasser in Hochsöll
At around 1,150 metres in Hochsöll lies the Hexenwasser: a bee house, Kneipp pool, sound stones and Austria’s longest barefoot trail with 60 stations for all the senses. Together with the witches, children make giant soap bubbles. Reachable with the Söll gondola – or as a combined trip via the Hohe Salve. Entry is included in the lift ticket.
Alpinolino in Westendorf
In Westendorf the Alpenrosenbahn takes you up to the Talkaser at 1,770 metres. That is where the Alpinolino puzzle trail over the Himmelsteig begins (about 1.5 hours) – a treasure hunt that children love. At the top station you will find Spoggolino, according to the operator the longest marble run in Tyrol. A carrier is recommended for toddlers.
Goasberg puzzle trail in Kirchberg
Take the chairlift up the Gaisberg (top station 1,264 m), then follow eight puzzle stations with a forest slide, a swing by the lake and a viewing platform for children. The puzzle booklet is available free of charge at the valley station or the tourist office. Note: the trail ends at the Gasthof Obergaisberg; it is about 3.5 kilometres on foot back down to the valley.
For older children: canyoning & activity programme
- Kids’ canyoning in Westendorf from age 8 – guided, with slides, jumps and abseiling down a waterfall.
- The tourist board’s activity programme offers alpaca hikes, pony rides, torchlight walks and mountain bike training for children – at a reduced price with the guest card.
Guest card: families save too
With the Brixental guest card there are discounts on the children’s and family programme, free entry to the pools in Brixen, Kirchberg and Westendorf and a free child carrier against a deposit. Buses and trains in the valley are free. All guest card benefits
