Tobogganing – winter fun for everyone
Tobogganing is the perfect change from skiing: you need no previous experience and no expensive equipment – and everyone has fun, from the kids to the grandparents. There are several toboggan runs in the Brixental, the best known is right next door in Kirchberg.
The toboggan run on the Gaisberg in Kirchberg
On the Gaisberg a 4-seater chairlift takes you comfortably to the start of the run – no tiring climb with the sledge in tow. The run is 3.3 kilometres long and descends around 420 metres back to the valley station. It is rated sporty: with small children it is best to ride together on one sledge and take the bends slowly.
Night tobogganing on the Gaisberg
The highlight: the run is floodlit, so night tobogganing is possible. When the valley lies in darkness and the lights of the run glow, the descent becomes a little adventure. The lift company publishes the exact times for night tobogganing – please check in advance.
Rental, refreshments & getting there
- You can rent toboggans right at the valley station.
- Mountain huts along the run invite you to stop, including the Gasthaus Obergaisberg.
- There is free parking at the valley station and a bus stop called “Gaisberglift”.
More tobogganing in the Brixental
Around Brixen there are further natural toboggan runs, for example up to the Brixenbachalm. Which runs are currently open is shown in a daily overview by the Kitzbüheler Alpen – Brixental tourist board.
Safe tobogganing – our tips
- Sturdy, high winter boots and gloves are a must, a helmet is highly recommended.
- Brake with both feet flat on the ground – never with your heels.
- Toboggan runs are not ski pistes: for safety reasons tobogganing on pistes is not allowed.
- After the last run in the evening: a warm finish awaits at our Glühbirnstadl. To the Glühbirnstadl
