The Hohe Salve – the Brixental’s viewing mountain
At 1,829 metres, the Hohe Salve is one of the best-known viewing mountains in Tyrol. On a clear day the view stretches across the Kitzbühel Alps to the Wilder Kaiser and far beyond. The best part: you do not have to climb for hours – the lift takes you almost to the summit.
How to get up
The Salvenbahn starts in Hopfgarten im Brixental, our neighbouring village, and runs in two sections from 625 to 1,829 metres. By car you reach the valley station in about ten minutes. Even more relaxed: with the Brixental guest card you travel free by train from Brixen to Hopfgarten – the valley station is close to the railway station.
According to the operator, the lift runs in summer 2026 from 14 May to 26 October, daily from 8:45 am to 5 pm. Small children ride free, and there are reductions for children and teenagers.
What awaits you at the summit
- Revolving restaurant: Austria’s highest revolving restaurant – while you eat, the panorama turns once all the way around you.
- Pilgrimage church: the highest pilgrimage church in the country, right on the summit.
- Panoramic paths: easy loops around the summit, the viewing platform is low-barrier.
- For children: the “Salvis Kraxxl” play area with sundial stations.
Combination tip: Hexenwasser in Hochsöll
From the Hohe Salve you can take the gondola to Hochsöll – where the Hexenwasser awaits with a barefoot trail, Kneipp pool and giant soap bubbles. Ideal for families, more in the family article.
More mountain lifts in summer
- Hochbrixen gondola – right in Brixen im Thale, to the RiesenWelt at the Filzalmsee and on with the Zinsbergbahn to the viewing platform.
- Alpenrosenbahn Westendorf – to the Alpinolino discovery park at 1,770 metres.
- Gaisberg chairlift in Kirchberg – with the Goasberg puzzle trail for children.
- Hahnenkammbahn Kitzbühel – to the start of the Streif hike (see Day trip to Kitzbühel).
With the guest card there are discounts on selected mountain lifts in the region.
Our tip for the best view
Go up in the morning if you can: the air is often at its clearest then, and you will have enjoyed the long-distance view before clouds build up on hot days.
